Japanese Day

Gourmet Trails

Japanese food – much more than just sushi!

When we think of Japanese food most of us think sushi.  And while good handmade sushi is truly delicious there is much more to this marvellous, light cuisine.

Our Chef

Our host for the day Master Chef Seiya Nakano is from Osaka. As well as being a qualified sushi chef  he is also a trained Cordon Bleu Chef.

Our Japanese Day

Seiya begins the day by explaining the basic principles of Japanese food while you sip a refreshing cup of green rice tea.  Seiya talks us through the ingredients that would be found in any Japanese kitchen, and gives us guidelines on how to use them and where to buy them.

Then it is time to roll your own sushi. Soon you’ll be serving a range of different sushi as good as any you’d find in downtown Tokyo. As we make the sushi, we taste as we go, Seiya will advise how to give it that extra edge.

Then we move on to other Japanese dishes such as traditional soups, sashimi and other good things found on a typical Japanese menu.  Our day ends with a delicious Japanese lunch accompanied with a variety of different  artisan sake.
